Hewlett, NY – The Global Directory of Who’s Who proudly recognizes a tireless Long Island advocate who has spent more than four decades at the forefront of breast cancer awareness, legislation, and community outreach. Her journey into activism began from personal tragedy—after her 13-year-old son Michael was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma, she herself was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1986, just one week before his passing. Fueled by a mother’s love, she transformed grief into advocacy, eventually becoming Executive Director of Hewlett House, a center operated by the nonprofit 1 in 9: The Long Island Breast Cancer Coalition. A Hofstra University attendee, she studied communications and grant writing, and was honored by the New York State Bar Association for her relentless public service.

Her efforts have led to significant impact across both state and national platforms. She was instrumental in establishing National Mammogram Day alongside the Clintons and championed key legislation, including New York’s pesticide registry law and a compensation care bill. A sought-after speaker, she has delivered talks in hospitals, religious centers, and national conferences. Her community involvement extends to the SASS Foundation, the Disabled Advisory Board and the Aging Advisory Board of Nassau County. Beyond advocacy, she gives back by crocheting red, white, and blue blankets for veterans, and finds joy in gardening and beach outings. Her enduring commitment to health equity and legislative change continues to inspire across generations.
